We are delighted to announce that Sustainable Building Services Ltd (SBS) has been shortlisted for three prestigious awards at the 2025 Retrofit Academy Awards: Contractor of the Year, Best Retrofit Employer and Best Social Housing-led Retrofit Programme in partnership with Rykneld Homes, on behalf of North East Derbyshire District Council (NEDDC).
The Retrofit Academy is an industry leading body driving quality, retrofit knowledge, skills and momentum in the retrofit decarbonisation sector, spearheading the practical solutions needed to decarbonise UK housing at an ambitious scale.
It is an honour to be recognised as one of the best in the class in all three categories, this marks a further milestone of continuous recognition within the industry, being the third year we have been shortlisted.
Our owner and chair, Derek Horrocks, expressed his pride in this achievement: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this year’s Retrofit Academy Awards in all three categories we entered. These awards are undoubtedly the Oscars for companies and individuals delivering large scale, quality led, customer focused retrofit.
“Being shortlisted for these awards recognises our approach of technical excellence and putting the customer at the front and centre of everything we do, how we collaborate closely with our clients and how we recognise and support our excellent people. All of which produce outstanding impacts for the communities we work in.
“Putting people first – both in regards to my own team as well as the thousands of residents and client homes we’ve worked on in the past year- is key to the delivery of a high-quality service and that is at the heart of our ethos.”
Derek’s ongoing dedication to transforming lives for the better through retrofit decarbonisation at scale, not only includes his leadership here at SBS but other various director roles. These include founding the National Home Decarbonisation Group (NHDG), his involvement within the National Insulation Association (NIA) and being a Life Fellow of The Retrofit Academy.
The awards ceremony will take place at Futurebuild in March, where we look forward to celebrating the continued success of our industry together with our peers.
