The scheme has been commissioned and funded by Reading Borough Council, and is being delivered in accordance with the requirements of PAS2030:2019 / PAS 2035:2019.
The properties are all occupied and will benefit from an array of retro-fitted measures. These will include the installation of external wall insulation systems designed by PermaRock Products Ltd, together with new insulation for lofts, flat roofs and ‘room in roof’ spaces. Further thermal improvements will result from replacement doors and triple-glazed windows, as supplied by NorDan UK Ltd, and from new, positive input ventilation supplied by Biocraft Ltd.
Other carbon reduction measures include new energy efficient lighting, and the installation of air source heat pumps, which will upgrade and replace existing central heating systems.
Taking full advantage of efficiency savings, Reading B.C. is using the same opportunity to undertake a range of repair works. Amongst others, these include the renewal of internal beams, patch repairs to weatherproof render, various roof extensions and the replacement and re-insulation of several flat roofs.
In accordance with the PAS standard, the energy efficiency measures have all been specified on a whole-house, property-by-property basis, following detailed surveys. The Retrofit Assessor, Designer and Coordinator for the scheme is the Ashbourne-based UK Energy Assessors Ltd.
“This is another important new scheme for our southern division,” said SBS southern regional director, Mike Easdon. “It’s also another project on which our status as a PAS-accredited contractor has played a vital role. We’ve shown that we’ve been able to embrace the new standards, mobilise very quickly and plan the scheme to ensure full compliance throughout the retrofit journey.”
