We’ve successfully secured a silver accreditation from Investors in People recognising our commitment to our employees’ wellbeing and progression. Our owner, Derek Horrocks, discusses the results.
At Sustainable Building Services, we know that for an employee to be invested in their work, it’s a two-way street, meaning their employer needs to be invested in them as well. That’s why we’re immensely proud for our efforts being recognised with a silver accreditation from Investors in People, an organisation committed to engaging, assessing, and working with businesses to improve their HR and communication processes.
Having assessed more than 50,000 businesses in its 30 years of operation, Investors in People is a trusted, independent body. We opened our doors to the organisation to discover where SBS currently doing well, as well as where there may be areas for improvement.
In our feedback, we were pleased to see Investors in People commended us for our ambitious, but sustainable, growth plans, as well as our promotion of values and behaviours within our company culture – both things that are greatly important to us. Moreover, we were also commended for the development of skills and capabilities in our people, citing their commitment to our future as another positive of our culture.
These results are in line with those from our recent internal employee survey. This found that 100% either agreed or strongly agreed we promote the idea of a unified team working towards the same goals, and a similar high level agreement rate that we provide worthwhile career training and opportunities to our team.
However, we understand that we can’t rest on our laurels, and a continuous process of evaluation and implementation is needed to improve further.
As well as celebrating our successes, Investors in People also gave recommendations for consideration in areas we can enhance what we already do.
To help this process further, we’ll be developing an action plan in collaboration with Investors in People to clarify and break down the next steps to take to reach our goals.
Nevertheless, this achievement shouldn’t be understated as it’s illustrative of our progress so far, and indicative of our loyalty to our employees as we drive forward as a business, and as an inclusive team.
Our mission at SBS is clear; to improve and retrofit the UKs housing stock with high quality decarbonisation. However, equally important is our mission to provide a high-quality workplace for our workers, because the former doesn’t come without the latter.
