Funding & Finance for Mixed Tenure Retrofits
Government and industry best practice agree that, wherever possible, decarbonisation schemes should be delivered at scale, following an area-based approach. It therefore makes good sense that contractors who are installing publicly-funded retrofit works within a community should offer the same measures to private homeowners and landlords.
However, home improvements can be costly, and concerns about affordability can stand as an obstacle to their wider adoption. The government’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) has supported our Home Hero initiative via the Green Home Finance Accelerator, part of the £1billon Net Zero Initiative Portfolio. It aims to reduce barriers to funding and support homeowners and residential landlords enhance the energy efficient of their properties.
Home Hero is our consumer-facing brand, and it helps households to bridge the gap between grants, savings and the cost of green home improvements. It’s part of our wider vision to accelerate the delivery of renewable energy and retrofit works, and to decarbonise whole communities.
Home Hero supports homeowners and landlords by providing a managed end-to-end customer retrofit journey. It checks their eligibility for grant funding, and provides access to finance options that can cover additional costs. Once the works and funding have been agreed, we then deliver the retrofit works ourselves.
Eligible Measures
Energy efficiency and micro-regeneration measures available via Home Hero include:

These measures will help with reducing energy usage and carbon footprint, increasing property value, and enhancing comfort and welling, to provide a warmer and healthier home.
We deliver the retrofit decarbonisation works according to best practice and industry standards. Home Hero customers can be assured that they’ll receive first-class service and high-quality installations. All installations are registered with Trustmark, the government-endorsed quality scheme, and backed by independent guarantees of up to 25 years. Our sister company, Sustainable Energy Services (SES), manages the Home Hero retrofit advice and customer journey.
