The government has announced up to 300,000 homes will benefit from home upgrades to energy efficiency next year in a drive towards lower energy bills and cleaner heating of homes.
The government press release quotes Minister for Energy Consumers Miatta Fahnbulleh saying ‘all families deserve the security of a home they can afford to heat.’
We at SBS support this initiative and ethos.
Part of the wider Warm Homes Plan, the package centres around the addition of heat pumps to homes, with grants becoming available and the removal of planning requirements for installation.
Additionally, lower-income households, renters, and social housing residents will also receive energy efficiency upgrades including insulation and low-carbon heating. Together, the measures will supposedly save households roughly £300 per year.
Discussing the changes, which were positively received in our office, our managing director Gary Lawson said: “It’s becoming a regular occurrence to see the government announcing new plans for how it will support the decarbonisation of homes in the UK, which is offering continued reassurance for homeowners, landlords, renters and the retrofit industry.
“The latest announcement reconfirms the government’s commitment following its latest spending review in October. Easier access to grants and new planning reforms could be a combination of actions that will leave a major legacy in the nation’s net-zero journey, which offers great optimism for 2025 and excitement for what’s to come.
“The government has importantly outlined its intentions to strengthen the retrofit industry’s ability to deliver the necessary works, through new investment in British manufacturing and innovation programmes. This government investment will mean that the private sector can move forward with confidence and focus on long-term planning so that maximum impact can be achieved for people living all over the country.”
