Our parent organisation Sustainable Investments Ltd (SI) has announced a new strategic investment in IoT Horizon, bringing a smart technology solution into the SI family to revolutionise healthier, energy-efficient homes and buildings across the UK.
SI has acquired a 76% stake in IoT Horizon, a family-owned leader in smart building technology based in Rawtenstall, Lancashire. This partnership is grounded in a shared commitment to creating healthier, energy-efficient living spaces while also addressing pressing environmental needs.
IoT Horizon’s advanced digital platform, Neronis®, collects essential data on temperature, humidity and air quality, equipping clients to make informed decisions for building safety, energy efficiency and occupant wellbeing. By leveraging artificial intelligence, IoT Horizon’s technology is transforming how buildings are managed and optimised, helping clients to create more sustainable environments and reduce energy costs.
Derek Horrocks, our owner and chair, said: “Both companies bring complementary expertise in housing decarbonisation and smart building technology. By combining our efforts, we are advancing our shared mission to make homes warmer, healthier and more affordable to heat, while reducing environmental impact. Our partnership demonstrates that innovative, purpose-driven companies are leading the way nationally in energy efficiency and health-focused building improvements.”
“This is a purpose-led investment, aiming to drive real social change by improving comfort and quality of life for residents while reducing environmental impact. IoT Horizon’s expertise in smart building technology will integrate with our extensive experience in housing decarbonisation projects. We are uniquely positioned to tackle issues such as air quality and ‘sick building syndrome’ – a challenge IoT Horizon has been addressing for years.”
This acquisition is timely, as recent cases have drawn attention to the critical need for better air quality in residential spaces. IoT Horizon’s mission to create healthier buildings is particularly relevant as awareness grows on the health risks associated with poor air quality.
Deyrick Allen, founder of IoT Horizon, said, “Our work has consistently focused on promoting healthy, safe environments through improved air quality and efficient energy use. Partnering with SI allows us to expand our impact by applying these insights to housing decarbonisation, benefitting social housing providers and residents alike. This collaboration will help scale our vision faster, creating meaningful change for communities across the UK.”
To reflect its new direction, IoT Horizon will be rebranded as Sustainable Smart Technologies. The rebranding aligns with the wider mission, providing a unified front for promoting smarter, greener, and healthier housing solutions. The current management team, including managing director Niamh Allen, will retain a 24% share in the company and continue to lead day-to-day operations, ensuring consistency for clients and a continued focus on innovation in building technology.
